About the Green Door Lofts

Green Door Lofts gets its name from the famous green door that welcomes residents into the courtyard. The green door is also referred to locally as the Hobbit Door. The door serves as a backdrop for visitors on the street stopping and posing for selfies. Countless brides have ventured to the door for their bridal portraits. We love it!! This 9 unit complex is located on a trendy street that links the historic old homes of Waco with the parks along the Brazos River. Next door is the iconic Waco Hippodrome, where you can grab dinner and an adult beverage while watching a play, concert, or show. Waco’s free trolley stops in front of the loft before continuing to the Silos and other downtown shops.
We are perfectly located! A 5 minute walk to Magnolia, in the heart of Downtown, Waco, and close to Cameron Park, a 416-acre stretch of land with hike and bike trails and the Waco Zoo. We are also located within a 5 minute drive of Baylor's McLane Stadium. On game days, Baylor’s free shuttle that runs between downtown and the stadium is only a couple blocks away. Downtown Waco has plenty of free street parking and Uber and Lyft ride shares are readily available.
History & Background
The Green Door Lofts building was originally a dry goods store in the heart of bustling downtown Waco. In the 1970's, like many downtowns across America, the charm of downtown began to fade as folks moved to the suburbs and large malls dominated the shopping experience. The building had fallen into disrepair until purchased by local architect Grant Dudley, who designed one of the first truly fabulous downtown residences. He enlisted the aid of local stained glass and wood artisan Bryant Stanton to transform the ordinary into enchanting, and 714 Lofts was born. Originally styled as a collection of individual loft homes, the building was purchase by the current owner, a local physician, Jim Olmsted who has renamed the building Green Door Lofts and meticulously decorated each loft with funky, stylistic, and fun themes.

About the Owner
Hello, I'm Jim, and I live on site in one of the lofts to assist with anything I can to make your stay more comfortable! In my other life, I am a physician specializing in radiology. In my alter ego life, I am an outgoing host who enjoys meeting people and sharing my vibrant community with visitors from all over the world. I have lived in Waco for over 25 years, having relocated downtown to the lofts three years ago.

I hope you will also meet Ruth Olmsted during your stay with us. Ruth is my 80 year old mother, going on 60, who tends to the beautiful courtyard gardens everyday and makes those yummy pecan cinnamon rolls for our guests.
Owning and managing the Green Door Lofts is my newest exciting adventure. I look forward to meeting new people and sharing my incredible community with them
